Specifically, the Agadir area is perfect for surfing between October and April, with consistent swells thanks to its exposure to North Atlantic storms. Namibia offers renowned waves like Skeleton Bay, which is reserved for highly experienced surfers, thanks to swells coming from the Antarctic Ocean. Yes, the water is as cold as you’d expect, but the location boasts stunning landscapes and remarkable wildlife. It’s also a less crowded destination, which makes wave riding even more enjoyable.
However, there are two downsides. The first is that the best time to surf in this part of Africa is from May to September, competing with already established destinations elsewhere in the world, such as the Maldives or Indonesia. The second is that in Namibia, beaches are not public, and many of the best surf spots are owned by large mining companies or tycoons, making them inaccessible to surfers.
South Africa: Another Paradise for Surfers
South Africa has over 3,000 kilometers of coastline and a range of surf spots with high-quality waves. Among the most famous destinations are the waves of J-Bay, one of the longest and most perfect right-handers in the world, and the reef areas around Cape Town. Both areas are mainly suited for experienced surfers seeking powerful and large waves, which occur between March and September.

For example, you can ride the fun right-hand wave of Pomene or the even longer right-hander at Tofinho, suitable for more advanced surfers, or the beach at Tofo, a paradise for beginners. Barra Beach, also in the same area, is another interesting destination for beginner and intermediate surfers.

Another top surfing destination in Africa is Egypt. Specifically, the best surf areas are found on the northern coast, which faces the Mediterranean Sea.
